Making Faces offers a variety of face painting classes, body painting and other courses to appeal to all age groups, experience levels and specific interests. Whether you are a parent wanting to learn a fun new activity for connecting with your kids, a childcare worker looking for a valuable new skill for your resume, a community group looking to face paint at a fundraiser, or an adult or child looking for a fun new creative skill, we’ve got the class for you.

How to Book a Class
To book a face painting class, body painting class, and other custom classes or enquire about any of our upcoming or custom classes, visit our class timetables page and please call Julie on 0414 783 106.

Practical, Hands-on and Fun
All our painting workshops are practical and hands-on, and the tips and advice we can provide come from practical experience painting thousands of faces.
Location
Classes are held in Gymea Bay, 40 mins from the centre of Sydney, or if you have a group of 8 or more and would like to have it at your premises, we are happy to come to you.
We can provide private classes for groups such as playgroups, staff training, mothers groups, ‘girls nights/boys nights’ and offer a really fun package for kids parties. Call us at 0414 783 106 to discuss our group discounts and we can customise the learning experience for your specific interests.

Experience and Equipment
No prior experience in painting of any kind is required. Our classes are designed for people of all abilities. All painting equipment and materials are supplied – just bring a sense of adventure and a camera to record your face painting creations! Starter kits and the full range of face painting supplies will be available to purchase after the class if you wish.

The following classes are offered on a regular basis:
Level One – Learn to Face Paint
For beginners, our Level One Course will teach you everything you will need to know to get out there face painting with confidence.
We cover the following topics in this workshop:
- what products and equipment to use
- how to use them
- hygiene and safety
- painting techniques such as brushwork and sponging
This course also teaches you the most popular face painting designs for boys and girls, and a range of practical tips and tricks which will have you painting like a pro. Students will come away knowing how to confidently paint a range of full-face and ‘cheek art’ designs.
For groups with particular interests, such as schools or sporting clubs wanting to use their skills at a fundraiser, we can also tailor the course to cover issues such as how to set up and run a successful face painting stall, or other more specific areas.
This class is for all ages (adults and children over 14). This wide range of ages allows families the ability for parents and children to attend a class together (as a “Mum and Me” day out, for example). However, we do also offer adults-only classes where preferred, so please email us for more information.
Level Two – Intermediate Face Painting
Expand Your Skills, Techniques and Repertoire
Take your face painting to the next level. For students who have either completed Level One, or have some face painting experience, this class covers a new set of more elaborate designs, new techniques and tools, as well as how to start a face painting business (covering issues such as insurance, permits, copyright, marketing and much more).
Level Three – Advanced Face Painting Techniques

For students who have completed Levels One and Two, or have extensive face painting experience, this class covers more advanced techniques which are guaranteed to wow your kids/customers and significantly increase your painting speed. In our Rainbow Cakes class we show you some amazing super-fast designs using these fantastic little paint cakes that your clients/kids will be blown away by. In the 3D Effects class, we show you how to create truly scary monsters, furry animals and how to create your own designs.
This class is for adults.
Special Effects Workshop
Exciting NEW workshop covering: Theatrical special effects makeup and face painting for creating realistic injuries and face and body alteration such as horns, ears, scars, ageing, fur, facial hair, zombie skin, dramatic textures and lots more. Using a variety of techniques from simple household products to latex prosthetics we create AMAZING results. An exciting and addictive area of face and body painting, this class is a must-see!
Balloon Twisting for Beginners
Learn the fun and hugely popular skill of balloon twisting. This beginners class will show you the essential twists and techniques to make a variety of quick and effective balloon animals/sculptures with confidence. A great additional skill for a face painter to add length to your bookings, and competitive edge to your quotes.

Mini Workshop on Glitter Tattoos and Graffiti Tattoos
These popular and lucrative skills are currently in high demand. Not only can they add length to your bookings, and competitive edge to your quotes, but they are perfect for large-scale markets and events, as they are able to be done very quickly – great for those long lines!
Young Adults Class (9-16yrs)
This class is tailored specifically to the 9-16yrs age group. The face painting designs we focus on are customised around the ages/interests of those attending on the day.
These can include tattoo-like painting of popular logos such as Roxy, DC, Monster, Fox Racing, Rip Curl and other skate/surf/clothing brands, popular face designs for teenage girls like butterflies and frangipanis and for the boys – chinese calligraphy tattoos. These classes are creative, practical and a lot of fun.
Want to do a class but child minding is an issue? Bring the kids!
We now run classes during school hours in a number of Play Cafes, including the popular ‘Little Fish Play Cafe’ at Caringbah. The kids can have a ball in the sandpit, climbing gym, and on a host of other fantastic play equipment in a safe and child-friendly environment, while you learn!
Customised Group Classes
We can tailor a class to the specific needs of your group. Perhaps you are a playgroup, kindergarten, mothers group or group of friends who would like to concentrate on designs for very young children, or particular themes such as “princesses and fairies”, “superheroes” or “Christmas”.
Or you may be a sporting club wanting to set up a face painting stall at a fundraiser and want to concentrate on learning the 5 or 6 most popular money-raising designs.
Maybe you just want a ‘girls night out with a difference’ – grab a group of friends, a bottle of bubbly and take advantage of our group discounts.
Whatever theme you’ve got in mind, we’ve got it covered! For group classes of 5 people or more, we can even come to you!
Kid’s Face Painting Parties
Face painting is also a popular and fun children’s party alternative. We can come along to your venue (in fairy costume if requested) and provide a fun and creative face painting lesson (or mini-lesson, to fit in with your timing) which the kids will love.
They will get hands-on training and have a ball while learning a fun skill they can use with their friends and for events such as younger siblings’ birthday parties and school fundraising stalls.
